Does it matter if the trailer is dual axle?

  • The trailer can be single or dual axle.

  • It can also be a boat, box, car trailer or toy hauler (as long as its under 4.5T ATM)

Does the trailer need to be inspected to get a VIN?

  • No - These types of trailers do not have to be inspected to be allocated a VIN (No more than 4 in 12 months)

Does the trailer need to be inspected at all?

  • Yes - At the time of registration you will need a compliance inspection if your trailer has more than 1 axle or it has an ATM of more than 750kg. This inspection ensures trailers or caravans comply with Australian Design Rules. These inspects can be carried out at some transport and motoring service centres, or if you live in a rural area, a QGAP office, Magistrates Court or local police station that provide these services. Please call to confirm before visiting.

    This inspection can also be conducted by an accredited person under the Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS).
